Moves to reduce vehicles’ tonnage on estate roads

SOUTH DUBLIN County Council are to look at reducing the 7.5 tonne weight restriction on the estate roads between the Oval (R148) and the junction of Wheatfield Road/ Kennelsfort Road to a 3.5 tonne restriction.

This follows a motion passed and proposed by Councillor Guss O’Connell at this week’s Lucan Area Committee meeting of SDCC.

Cllr O’Connell told The Echo: “I feel that this is very necessary given the narrow estate roads, the two primary schools and the three crèches within the estates, as well as the above average percentage of older people, increased number of young people, and its proximity to Stewarts Hospital, and that there are support residents in some of the houses on these roads.”

The Council replied that the request “will be considered in accordance with SDCC Policy Document ‘The Mobility and Management of Heavy Goods Vehicles (HGV’s) on South Dublin County Road Network’”.

A report will then be brought to the Lucan Traffic Management Meeting.
