Moyle Park qualify for U19 All-Ireland Basketball final

MOYLE Park College U19 basketball team qualified for the All-Ireland School Basketball Final after seeing off Coláiste Muire Máthair from Galway in a thrilling semi-final.

Coached by Mr Roche and Mr Gregg, the Clondalkin outfit put together a solid performance to hang on after a brave challenge from Coláiste Muire Máthair.

Point guard Rokas Liucvaikis was the hero for Moyler, after winning a free he levelled matters before the netting a dramatic winner with nine seconds on the clock.

Moyle Park got off great start and were 26-15 up after the first quarter before the Galway outfit raised their game in the second quarter and ended up only three points behind, finishing the second quarter 36-3.

Coláiste Mhuire Mháthair took the lead in a nail biting third quarter and led on a scoreline of 38-42 going heading into the final quarter.

The lead changed hands on a number of occasions in the final quarter with both sides fighting for the victory.

Moyle Park guard, Rokas Liucvaikis was fouled in the dying seconds and was awarded two free throws.

He converted the first to level the match and scored the second to secure the victory for Moyle Park with nine seconds left on the clock.

The Clondalkin side progress to the All-Ireland Cup Final against Colaiste Pobail Bheanntrai from Cork.

An incredible performance on the day by all involved including team captain, Jake Mullins, Michael O’ Connor, Ridhwan Atoro, Michael Agbomere and Danius Mika.

Team coach Alan Gregg commented on the ‘huge commitment of the boys and the fantastic attitude of the team that has led to such success this year’.

The team have also won the under-19 Dublin League final and progress to the All-Ireland playoffs in the New Year.

A fantastic year of sport in Moyle Park. We wish them every success in the All- Ireland Final in January.
