Naomh Pádraig run riot in title decider

By Stephen Leonard

JUST as they had throughout their entire campaign this season, Gaelscoil Naomh Pádraig ran riot in the Corn MhicPhiarais Final, beating Scoil Neasáin 12-10 to 4-4 in Croke Park on Monday.

There was a nice spread of scoring for the Lucan side with no less than ten players all hitting the mark for the team.

Maitiú Ó Cuagáin emerged their top scorer, accounting for three goals and six points while Conchúr Mac Searraigh twice found the back of the net as did Cathal Ó Maolchaoim.

Fionn Bruton fired over three points while even goalkeeper Cathal Ó Dúda got in on the act when he was called upon to convert two frees, which he did most impressively.

Rian Ó Loingsigh, Brendan Ó hEarbáin, Alex Ó Mcilbhín, Sean Ó Moiséid and Liam de Briotúin all fired home a goal as Naomh Pádraig cruised to the prize.

Captain Shane Ó Coasaigh at centre back and Liam Ó Fearghail at corner back also played their part in what was a tremendous win for the Lucan outfit.

“This is an exceptional team and this is probably the closest a team has come to them this season” said a proud Naomh Pádraig coach Domhnall MacConmara.

The bulk of the team plays with Lucan Sarsfields with St Patrick’s in Palmerstown supplying some of the players and Round Tower accounting for one.

Many of them were on the squad that won the shield last year, and will be delighted to have played their part in winning a cup level at this season.
