National treble and counting for Jobstown

JOBSTOWN BC were among the stand-out local clubs in action at last weekend’s National Boy and Girl Boxing Championship Finals at Drimnagh Boxing Club.

Indeed three of their four qualifiers all scooped their respective titles with Mikayla Heapes still in the reckoning to do likewise having secured her place in the Girl One 53kg decider after beating Saoirse Walsh of Northside BC on a unanimous decision.

Her clubmate Brandon Geoghegan capped off a great year by landing the National Boy Two 46kg title after carding a 5-0 victory over Lisburn’s Kane Brannigan in his decider on Sunday.

Forcing his opponent to take a standing count in the second round, Geoghegan controlled this contest right the way through for a comfortable victory.

Brodrick Abudiore’s final step on the road to the Boy Two 59kg crown was even more emphatic as he served up a second-round stoppage to Ben Reid in the final.

Wobbling his opponent with a heavy right hand in the second stanza, he did it again less than half a minute later, forcing the referee to step in and call a halt to proceedings.

Completing the Championship podium line-up for Jobstown at the weekend was Faith Killeen who received a walkover in the Girl One 57kg Final.

Meanwhile Drimnagh Boxing Club’s Darragh Ryan secured the Boy One 52kg title after he carded a 5-0 triumph over Cameron Pearse of St Michael’s Athy.

There was heartbreak for Crumlin in that very division as they saw their two representatives Kristian Jubani and Tadgh McCarthy both beaten one step short of their respective titles.

The former lost out 4-1 on Immaculata’s Lee Largey Snodden in the Boy Two 33kg showpiece before McCarthy emerged on the wrong side of a unanimous decision in his Boy Two 48kg decider against James Rooney of Glenn BC.
