NEW bus routes have been introduced linking students in IT Tallaght with Maynooth and Kildare.

The college engaged with Dualway coaches to obtain licenses for two new bus routes connecting the campus with Kildare and Maynooth.

The idea behind the service was to make it easier for students to study at IT Tallaght, eliminating the need for public transport.

A shortage of student accommodation and the high cost of renting, was another factor attributed by IT Tallaght students for the service.

Jessica Wall, President of IT Tallaght Students Union, welcomed the move and the accessibility it will provide for students.

Jessica said: “I was delighted to see the Institute obtain licenses for two new bus routes. I have had excellent feedback from students to date with some stating the new bus service takes up to half an hour off their normal journey to and from college.

“It’s such a positive step for the Institute and the wider community as whole, and hopefully we will have an influx of students from these areas choosing to study at IT Tallaght in the coming years.

The Kildare route starts in Kildare Town and travels to IT Tallaght via Newbridge, Naas and Rathcoole, while the Maynooth route travels via Celbridge, Leixlip, Lucan, Grifeen, Ballyowen and Ronanstown.

Tickets are €8.50 return from Kildare Town – €7.50 return from Maynooth – and leap cards offer a reduced rate.

The Kildare bus departs Kildare Town at 7.25am, the Maynooth bus leaves at 7.20am. In the evening, both buses leave IT Tallaght at 17.10 pm Monday–Friday.

If there is sufficient demand, ITT and Dualway will look at putting on a second bus in the morning that leaves later to suit students who don’t have 9am starts.
