New youth cafe could be on the cards for Adamstown

THE PROVISION of a youth café in the Adamstown/Paddocks and Newcastle Road area of Lucan could be on the cards as South Dublin County Council are to carry out a consultation on facilities for teenagers in the county’s parks and open spaces.

At last month’s Lucan Area Committee meeting of SDCC, Councillor Liona O’Toole proposed a motion that “ the Chief Executive investigate if locations could be identified in the Lucan area for the provision of a multi-use games/sports area as part of the study to be carried out in 2017.”

The motion added that “given that the following areas Adamstown / Paddocks and Newcastle road are in close proximity could the provision of a youth café be considered for this area as it has been identified as a key area and would help integrate children from different ethnicities and backgrounds.”

The Council replied that the consultation on the facilities for teenagers in parks and open spaces will commence in 2017, “following a scoping exercise on the parameters for the study”.

The Council added: “The extent and parameters of the study will be brought to the Area Committee Meetings prior to the commencement of the study itself.

“The Community Department will be involved in this study and the case for considering youth cafés will be included in the scoping exercise.”
