NIGHT time works are currently being carried out on removing the median mound running along the stretch of N81 between the Glenview and M50 roundabouts.

Starting on Monday of this week, night time work is expected to continue for two weeks, with Glenview residents claiming they received no prior notification to the out-of-hours works.

One resident told The Echo: “Crews are working all night, it’s hard to sleep with the noise.

“We understand that works have to do done but nobody was given any notification, the council didn’t tell anybody [of the night works].

“We’re also concerned over the removal of the clay mound [from the middle of the road], this has acted as a sound barrier [for the nearby houses] and also had an environmental role [in clearing the air of car fumes].”

When contacted by The Echo, a spokesperson for South Dublin County Council confirmed that the removal of the median mound is part of landscape improvement works along the N81 – and in accordance with the Part 8 design approved by the local authority.

“As part of the works a short section of a mound along the central median is currently being removed”, the council spokesperson said.

“The upgrade of the approach road to Tallaght includes for the reinstatement of the central median and will include new hedge planting and the planting of large sized Oak Trees to create an avenue effect along the roadway.

“The proposed planting will provide air quality amelioration and a softer visual effect along the high-profile access road.”

In relation to the night works, the spokesperson said: “Due to the requirements of the Civil Contractor’s Traffic Management Plan a portion of the works is required to proceed during the night time.

“The night works will be for a limited time only and is estimated to take approximately 2 weeks commencing the 25th of February 2019, and will be Monday to Thursday nights inclusive.

“SDCC apologise for any inconvenience during these works.”
