No plans for separate dog run for smaller breeds in Corkagh

SOUTH Dublin County Council does not intend to provide a separate dog run exclusively for smaller breeds in Corkagh Park, following a request by a councillor.

At the recent Clondalkin area meeting, Cllr William Carey (SF) was seeking support for a small dog run “within or beside the existing dog run in Corkagh Park.”

“This request comes from dog owners of large and small dogs as they believe it would make their experience in the park better for all dog owners and dogs,” said Cllr Carey.

However, the request to segregate bigger and smaller canines was given short leash by the council, who said the existing dog run is “adequate for the purpose that it was provided for.”

“SDCC does not intend to provide a separate dog run for smaller dogs,” they said.

The dog run has been in Corkagh Park since 2013, and is approximately 4,000 square metres in size and measures approximately 50 metres x 80 metres.

The council say it is a well-used “self-regulating facility” frequented by a wide variety of dog breeds, “both large and small.”

“Dog owners are responsible for their dogs while using the facility and they should be under effectual control at all times,” said SDCC.

“The size of dog does not necessarily determine the behaviour of dogs, this is a matter for the dog owner or person in charge of the dog.”
