Now and Then go ‘Back to the 80s’ with musical production
“BURSTING with neon nostalgia, iconic hits, vibrant comedy and heartfelt storytelling, ‘Back To The 80’s’ promises a feel good theatrical experience for all ages,” beams director Catherine “Griffo” Griffin.
The Now And Then Production Company is thrilled to announce its 2026 musical production, ‘Back To The 80’s’.
Set in the halls of William Ocean High School, this high energy musical celebrates the decade that shaped a generation, bringing audiences on a colourful journey through teenage crushes, cassette tapes and unforgettable 80s anthems.
Founded in 1990 by Patricia Dunne, Gerard Dunne and Aidan Mulcahy, The Now And Then Production Company was created with a clear and powerful mission: to establish a multi denominational, inclusive youth and adult musical drama group where everyone from Tallaght and the wider area was welcome.
Actors, singers, dancers, musicians, painters, set builders, costume makers, makeup teams, electricians, sound engineers, and front of house volunteers all found a home within the company.
No one was ever turned away. That spirit of openness and belonging continues to define The Now And Then family.
What began as a small religious drama with live music quickly proved that a passionate local community could create something extraordinary.
Each year, confidence, ambition and skill grew. The company transitioned from early performances in St Mary’s Priory in Tallaght Village to its current home in the Kilnamanagh Family Recreation Centre.
Over the decades, generations of performers and volunteers have discovered new skills, built lifelong friendships and developed confidence that reaches far beyond the stage.
This year’s production proudly reunites a powerhouse creative trio whose synergy brings out the best in one another and in everyone involved.
Returning to lead the production, Catherine brings her distinctive vision, expressive stagecraft and dynamic storytelling style.
Her instinctive ability to create atmosphere and draw out vibrant performances is at the heart of this year’s show.
Musical director Kenneth Whelan’s precision, skilful arrangements and deep connection with ensemble performance make the iconic 80s soundtrack pulse with energy and authenticity.
Under his direction, the music becomes a driving emotional force.
Choreographer Brigid Kelly’s sharp, imaginative and high impact choreography lights up the stage with movement that blends classic 80s flair and contemporary creativity, delivering dance sequences that are both fun and unforgettable.
Together, Catherine, Kenneth and Brigid form a genuine dream team: a collaborative trio who inspire, challenge and elevate one another.
Their combined passion, creativity and leadership promise a production bursting with personality, polish and heart.
‘Back to the 80s’ runs from Thursday, April 9, to Saturday, April 11 at the Kilnamanagh Family Recreation Centre, Tallaght.
Audiences can enjoy evening performances at 7:30pm, with a lively Saturday matinee at 2:30pm.
