Now and Then – Joseph & the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat

By Tara McCoy

Continuing their dedication to the community through theatre and charity, The Now and Then Theatre Company will be putting on a production of ‘Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat’ at St. Mary’s Priory in Tallaght village from April 9 to the 13 at 8pm with doors opening at 7.30.

Now and Then is a multi-denominational youth and adult music and drama group whose focus is to celebrate everyone’s uniqueness, while helping to develop stage skills such as acting singing and dancing along with skills such as hair, makeup, sound, lighting and props.

There is a place for everyone in the programme as they cater to a current age group of 8-70 years with this year’s production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat including 42 cast, with eight children on stage as well as an amazingly talented 18- piece orchestra.

Director Mick Byrne, Choreographer Helen McCann and Musical Director Kenneth Whelan, have been working alongside the cast since October to put together the musical, which tells the story of “the coat of many colours” from the Bible’s Book of Genesis.

Now and Then theatre company focuses largely on inclusiveness, offering a variety of opportunities for anyone interested no matter what age, interests, talents or background.

Because of their diligent fundraising efforts, the theatre company is able to provide these opportunities free of membership fees, making theatre accessible for all.

This theme of inclusiveness and paying it forward is demonstrated once again as the opening night proceeds are donated to a local charity each year.

This year’s charity is the Crumlin branch of “Football for All”.

Set up ten years ago by local parents, the impactful programme is made up of players from all groups and sporting bodies that cater to people with a disability who want to play football.
