Olly’s Farm scoop two gold stars at Great Taste Awards

ANOTHER busy month up on the farm in Glenasmole for Olly’s Farm.

Raw honey producer Olly Nolan, recently won 2 Gold Stars at the Great Taste Awards in the UK for his heather and blossom honey.

It is not the first time the start up has won awards, and it won’t be the last for a venture Olly started with his business partner Christian Zahorski 10 years ago.

After securing 8.5 acres in Glenasmole in 2012, they have a small hive of bees, two chickens, started building a vegetable garden and then got goats and cows.

Since them, the business has blossomed, producing award winning, 100 per cent raw, local Irish honey, from there many different apiaries around Dublin and Wicklow.

They also produce grass fed Dexter beef, vegetables, and eggs.

“I have also been shortlisted to the final of the Irish Country Magazine ‘Irish Made Awards,” said Olly this week.

“Both of these are just incredible and I’m really so grateful for everyone that made it happen.”

The summer flow is now over and Olly has been busy clearing bees out of the honey boxes (known in beekeeping as supers).

“This method of harvesting the honey is totally un-invasive on the bees. I lift off the boxes, position the clearing board and then replace the boxes of honey.

“Over two days the bees leave the honey boxes as they want to return to the rest of the bees. It one directional so they can’t return and when I come back I just remove the honey boxes and bring it back to the farm.”

Olly is appealing for residents to give his business a public vote, in the Irish Magazine Awards 2022.
