AN ORAL hearing into the Clonburris SDZ will be held by An Bord Pleanála this week, with the hearing beginning on Tuesday, January 22, reports Aideen O’Flaherty.

Last June, councillors in South Dublin County Council voted by 24 to 9 to approve plans for the Clonburris Strategic Development Zone (SDZ), which will be Dublin’s newest town.

The Clonburris SDZ will comprise of 8,500 houses, with at least 2,700 available for social and affordable housing.

It is located near Clondalkin, Liffey Valley, Lucan, and Adamstown, and the site is made up of 280 hectares and is similar in size to Wexford town.

A number of councillors lodged appeals with An Bord Pleanála in relation to the plans in July, with Independent councillors Francis Timmons, Liona O’Toole and Guss O’Connell lodging a joint appeal, while Independent councillor Paul Gogarty also lodged an appeal and called for an oral hearing.

The oral hearing will begin on Tuesday at An Bord Pleanála’s offices in Dublin 1.
