Orwell Shopping Centre plans for refurbishment and extension

PLANS for the refurbishment and extension of Orwell Shopping Centre in Templeogue have been lodged with South Dublin County Council.

Independent Trustee Company Limited lodged the plans last month, outlining a proposal for the refurbishment and extension of Orwell Shopping Centre, incorporating extensions at ground and first floor.

The proposed extensions are to provide additional five retail units and an extension to an existing unit, the development of six office units and a medical suite.

Provision of lobbies, circulation, stairwell/lifts, roof plant, advertising signage, reconfiguration of existing car parking and a standalone substation/switch room is included.

Elevational modifications, all associated site development works, landscaping and services provision associated with the development form part of the application.

Planning permission was previously granted for the refurbishment and extension of the shopping centre in 2009 by South Dublin County Council, and following a third-party appeal, An Bord Pleanála ultimately granted permission for the development in 2010.

The grant of planning permission from 2009 has since lapsed, and in the new application, Independent Trustee Company added that retention is also being sought for initial site development works carried out prior to expiration of that permission.

As reported in The Echo last year, a private Irish investor bought Orwell Shopping Centre for €7.8 million, in excess of the €7.5m that was guided by agents CBRE.

A decision on the current application is due from South Dublin County Council by January 22, 2021.
