Over €1,000 raised at street party for LauraLynn hospice
By Aideen O'Flaherty
OVER €1,000 was raised for the LauraLynn Children’s Hospice at the Inagh Road Street Party in Ballyfermot on Saturday, where approximately 200 people took part in the festivities during the annual community event.
The event, now in its fourth year, is organised by Jennifer Gibbons, Natalie Herbert and Stephanie Cronin, who all grew up on Inagh Road and decided to bring back the traditional street party that their grandparents used to hold on the road many years ago.
Neighbours along Inagh Road
Neighbours along Inagh Road all pitched in to help in the lead-up to the party, by carrying out gardening work, while local children also helped to tidy up the area in the preparation for the event.
Event organiser Jennifer Gibbons told The Echo: “Everybody was in great spirits.
“It was very good for the kids because it was sunny – last year it was raining!
“There are 28 houses on Inagh Road and everyone from each house helps out.”
The Roma chipper in Ballyfermot supplied the food for the event, while Bouncy King and David Holmes Mascots donated a number of services to the event, including bouncy castles, face painting, and slushie, popcorn and cotton candy machines.
All smiles at the street party
Jennifer estimates that over the years the event has raised €8,000 for LauraLynn and, explaining why she picked LauraLynn as her chosen charity to benefit from the event, she said: “It’s a charity that we realised needed more help, as they don’t get any government funding.
“We hope the money we’ve raised will help sick children to have a happy time towards the end of their lives.”
Jennifer added that herself, Natalie and Stephanie are already planning ahead for next year’s street party, and that they wanted to extend their thanks to the residents of Inagh Road and local businesses for their continued support in facilitating the event.
