Over 100 complaints reported for illegal dumping in Clondalkin

OVER 100 complaints for cases of illegal dumping in areas of Clondalkin were reported to South Dublin County Council in 2016.

A high proportion of the complaints – 86 – were received for the Bawnogue area, which incorporates St Cuthberts, Lindisfarne, Melrose, Deansrath, Kilcronan, Kilmahuddrick and Bawnogue Road.

The litter warden issued one fine and four warning letters from the 86 complaints.

However, a council spokesperson said nearly all of the illegal dumping sites investigated resulted in no evidence being found, or no witness statements received “therefore no further action could be taken.”

Meanwhile, the council received 31 complaints in 2016, for the Lindisfarne and Kilcronan areas, and two for Harelawn Green.

SDCC said it was “not possible to isolate costings for removal of illegal dumping by specific area.”

“It is, as always, proving extremely difficult to obtain evidence in relation to the identity of offenders, and we continue to encourage residents and the public at large to support the council in efforts to identify alleged polluters and to provide the necessary information to allow appropriate enforcement action to be taken,” said SDCC.
