Parents feel school has been exceptional during a tough time for local children

A PRIMARY school have been praised for “going over and above” for it’s pupils during the lockdown.

Martina Dooley, mother of two young boys who attened Mary Queen of Angels 1 in Ballyfermot, says parents feel the school has been “exceptional during a tough time for the children.

“I have three older girls, the oldest in college at Maynooth, and the other two in primary school in Inchicore, but I can see how isolated they are,” said Martina.

“For my two boys Jayden (6) and Aaron (5), the teachers are so lovely. It is the personal touch. Everyday they are calling you.”

Although her two lads are in senior infants and junior infants respectively, they have been kept busy with school activities.

“It is fantastic during the lockdown, they have a fabulous app ‘seesaw’ which the kids work on daily. Parents send photos/videos back to the teacher and get feedback every day.

We also get phone calls, teachers chatting to the boys, liaison teachers asking if we need anything or any help, Zoom parties on Fridays, emails, newsletters,  photos of the children and their classmates sent to us, and photos of the teachers holding signs telling the children how much they are missing them.”

Teachers at the school created a song ‘As Dan says’ and sent out a video to parents.

“Dan is the caretaker and the song is about how much the staff miss the children. It would nearly have you in tears at the end of it,” said Martina.
