Parts of park could be closed for eight months

SECTIONS of Dodder Valley Park could be closed to members of the public for up to eight months, to facilitate works associated with the Dodder Greenway.

The stretch of riverbank as the Dodder flows between the Weir in Firhouse and Cherryfield is currently closed, with diversion routes in place.

The two playing pitches that lie off the Firhouse Road, opposite Ballyboden St Enda’s, will remain open.

In a comment to The Echo, a spokesperson for South Dublin County Council said that works involve new pathways, the upgrading of existing pathways, new public lighting, signage, landscaping, and minor works to Cherryfield carpark.

A spokesperson for the council said: “Cherryfield / Dodder Valley Park is currently partially closed to the public due to works associated with the Dodder Greenway.

“There are diversion routes in place and the playing pitches will remain open.

“This phase of the project is expected to take eight months, but the contractor is hoping to complete a month or two ahead of schedule.”

The multi-million Dodder Greenway is underway in South Dublin County, with the local authority commencing the pedestrian and bridges phase of the project last year.

The bridges are part of the overall Dodder Greenway, which will link the city centre to the Dublin Mountains via Ballsbridge, Milltown, Rathfarnham, Firhouse and Tallaght.

The South Dublin section of the Greenway stretches from the Bohernabreena reservoir to Orwell Park in Rathfarnham.

According to the council, the Greenway will represent a ‘major new transport and recreational facility’ for Dublin.
