Peamount Hospital benefits from €170,000 in funding
Vital works can now go ahead

Peamount Hospital benefits from €170,000 in funding

PATIENTS at Peamount Hospital in Newcastle will benefit from €170,000 in funding designated for vital reconfiguration works.

The funding allocated to the hospital comes from The National Health Capital Plan for 2021 and will benefit patients with intellectual disabilities at the hospital.

Speaking about the announcement, Dublin Mid-West’s Fine Gael TD, Emer Higgins, says she “welcomes” the allocated funding: – “I really welcome this funding for Peamount Hospital which will allow them to reconfigure their existing high dependency unit for older patients with intellectual disabilities.

“The Covid-19 pandemic has changed the operation of our hospitals. Ensuring they can be run in an environment that is safe for staff and patients is paramount.”

The funding will allow the hospital to reconfigure their existing multi-occupancy space for older patients with intellectual disabilities into a mixture of one-bed and two-bed occupancy rooms to allow for necessary social distancing while caring for 15 patients in the unit.

Higgins added: “Our health-care workers have made phenomenal sacrifices and worked incredibly hard throughout this pandemic, and I’m delighted to see that we are continuing to invest in our health service and allocate funding where it’s needed.

“I hope that this funding for Peamount will further improve the provision of care for patients while allowing staff to do their job safely.”
