Pedestrian in hospital after accident involving Garda car

Emergency services still remain at the scene today of a road traffic accident which involved a Garda car and a pedestrian on the M50 on Saturday afternoon.

Road traffic diversions remain in place at the Templeogue/ Tallaght Junction 11 close to the Basketball Arena where traffic remains heavy in the area.

Gardai and emergency services attended the scene at around 3.30pm on Saturday afternoon and a male pedestrian in his 20s was taken to Tallaght University Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

A garda statement issued said:  “Gardaí and emergency services attended the scene of a road traffic incident which occurred at Junction 11 Northbound on the M50 in Dublin, on Saturday afternoon, 28th October 2023 at around 3.30pm.

Traffic is heavy between the Firhouse/Knocklyon (J12) and the Tallaght/Templeogue (J11) on the M50

“The incident involved an official Garda vehicle and a pedestrian.

“A male pedestrian (20s) was later taken to Tallaght University Hospital where he is currently receiving treatment for serious injuries. His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

“The section of the M50 where the collision occurred remains closed at this time and local diversions will remain in place.

“A technical examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators will be conducted.

As an official Garda vehicle was involved in this incident, this matter has been referred to the Garda Síochána Ombudsman Commission (GSOC).

A statement released by GSOC said: “The Garda Síochána Ombudsman Commission (GSOC) is seeking assistance in its examination of a road traffic incident in Dublin on the M50 northbound at junction 11 Tallaght, where the northbound on-ramp merges with the M50 at approximately 3.15pm on Saturday 28 October 2023.

“GSOC would like to speak to any witnesses who observed any incident, activity or interactions at this time and location. GSOC would also welcome the provision of any CCTV, dashcam or mobile footage witnesses may have captured”.
