Finches Pub could be replaced by smaller pub and apartments

Plans lodged for demolition of Finches Pub

DEMOLITION of The Finches Pub for the construction of a smaller public house with an apartment block make up plans that have been lodged with South Dublin County Council.

Old Nangor Road Ltd is proposing a mixed development consisting of one public house at ground level and 29 apartments within the footprint of the site (1,267sq.m) at Finches Shopping Centre, in Clondalkin.

If given the green light, the 29 apartments will be split into nine one-bedroom and 20 two-bedroom units.

All of the apartments will have balconies or terraces to all elevations.

This proposed development incorporates communal areas through a first floor courtyard above the carpark and a third floor roof terrace for the apartments.

Building a carpark capable of holding 14 cars, including one disabled space, bin store and bicycle stands at ground level are also included in the plans.

The applicant is also seeking to “enhance the public realm” through streetscape proposals within the boundaries of the site.

The existing public house, known as The Finches, spans across 910sq.m, and this application is seeking to demolish that to develop a significantly reduced public house in scale (178sq.m).

The Finches Pub went up for sale in 2018 and Morrissey’s, pub and hotel specialists, were seeking offers with an auction schedule for April of that year.

Morrissey’s were later acquired by real estate agents Lisney.

It is understood that Old Nangor Road Ltd purchased the property in Clondalkin.

In a letter attached with the planning application, Director of the Old Nangor Road Ltd, Sean Martyn, stated “as agreed, all four units on the ground floor are to be fully wheelchair ‘friendly’ to assist with independent living”.

Mr Martyn went on to say that South Dublin County Council “have expressed an interest in these units”.

Third party submissions are being accepted up to September 7, with a decision due from the local planning authority on September 28, 2021.
