Plans lodged to restructure and renovate Matt Talbot building

PLANS to restructure and renovate a fire-damaged Matt Talbot Community Trust building on Colepark Drive in Ballyfermot have been lodged with Dublin City Council.
The one-storey building, which housed the outreach project’s kitchen, workshops and WiFi connection, went on fire in 2018 – the origin of the fire is unknown – and the project has operated out of a second building at the site, and they also secured some space from the council, since then.

The trust offers support services to those who are recovering from addiction or who are trying to reintegrate after spending time in prison, and according to a report in The Echo shortly after the fire, there are up to 14 people who use the trust’s services on any given workday.
In the recently submitted planning application, Grainne Jennings from the trust is seeking permission for the restructuring of the external landscape and the renovation of the fire-damaged one-storey community centre.
The external landscaping works are to consist of new garden areas, a green house, a car parking area and the construction of a new boundary wall to the Cornamona land to the north of the site.
Provision for renovation works consisting of an upgraded thermal envelope to the building, including an insulated render system and new windows and doors, and the removal of adjacent sheds, is included in the plans.
A decision on the application has not yet been made by Dublin City Council.
