Plans to develop 29 apartments and demolish Finches withdrawn

A PLANNING application for the demolition of the Finches Pub in Clondalkin to make way for a ground-floor pub and a 29-unit apartment development has been withdrawn.

The plans were submitted by Old Nangor Road Ltd in August 2021, however South Dublin County Council deemed the application withdrawn this month.

The local authority made this decision as a request they had made to the developer to clarify submitted additional information had not been fulfilled within the required six-month time period.

The withdrawn proposal included the construction of 29 apartments, to be split into nine one-bedroom and 20 two-bedroom units, all of which were to have balconies or terraces to all elevations.

The proposed development incorporated communal areas through a first floor courtyard above the carpark and a third floor roof terrace for the apartments.

Building a carpark capable of holding 14 cars, including one disabled space, bin store and bicycle stands at ground level was also included in the plans.

The applicant sought to “enhance the public realm” through streetscape proposals within the boundaries of the site.

The existing public house, known as The Finches, spans across 910sq.m, and the applicant sought permission to demolish that to develop a significantly reduced public house in scale (178sq.m).

Last March, the council sought clarification of additional information that had been submitted by Old Nangor Road Ltd about the plans.

As it has now passed six months since that request was made, the local authority has withdrawn Old Nangor Road Ltd’s application.

The Finches Pub went up for sale in 2018 and Morrissey’s, pub and hotel specialists, were seeking offers with an auction scheduled for April of that year.

Morrissey’s were later acquired by real estate agents Lisney, and it is understood that Old Nangor Road Ltd then purchased the Finches property.
