Possible water reservoir upgrading for Ballyboden Waterworks

Possible water reservoir upgrading for Ballyboden Waterworks

By Echo Reporter

IRISH Water looks set to apply for planning permission to re-develop the Ballyboden Waterworks, located at Stocking Lane, with plans to replace the existing open-treated water reservoir with a new covered reservoir and disinfection plant.

According to the plans, which are set to be submitted to South Dublin County Council within the next two weeks, the production of the reservoir will not increase beyond the current 30,000m3 per day capacity that supplies drinking water to the “greater Dublin area”.

The re-development of Ballyboden Waterworks will include a new 16,000m3 covered reservoir approximately 5,000 sq.m. in height.

A new disinfection plant for the site is included within the application and will include a dosing/control building and contact tank that adjoins the new covered reservoir.

The demolition of the existing wash water recovery tank is proposed, and will be replaced by a new wash water recovery tank relocated approximately 250 sq.m. from the current location.

Modifications to the existing open reservoir inlet out and overflow pipework will also be proposed as part of the application, along with modifications to the western and northern embankments of the existing reservoir.

Temporary construction access to the site will be available via modifications to the existing southern access gate located on the site.

Included are removal of existing trees and provision of a temporary construction compound area.

All works are expected to take place on the Ballyboden Waterworks site, which covers an area of approximately 8.2 hectares.
