Project inspired by Clondalkin Mill strike

A WRITING project involving young people in Clondalkin is set to take place in June and July.

During that time the participants will help put together a magazine titled ‘The Mill’, which is inspired by the mill strike in Clondalkin in the 1980’s.

The project is being led by writer Ned O’ Sullivan who is also Co-editor of the journal of contemporary art criticism “Paper Visual Art”.

The mill in Clondalkin was one of the last existing papers mills in Ireland before it closed its doors in 1982.

The magazine will focus on the legacy of this strike and other industrial struggles throughout the years, whilst also giving those involved an insight into the history of paper making.

Tasks the people involved will undertake are in writing, photography and the printing process.

The Magazine they produce will be published sometime in the autumn.

Those wishing to take part are invited to Clondalkin Library on Saturday April 21, where an event entitled ‘Conversations about the Clondalkin Paper Mill’ will take place from 2-3.30pm.

Various speakers will talk about that strike, and then those in attendance will be invited to share their memories of that event too.

The event is ticket only, to reserve your place email: themill.publicart [at] gmail [dot] com
