Relentless Reilly propels Lucan to MGL Under 11 Cup glory

PRESSURE was the name of the game in the MGL Under 11 Cup Final, as Lucan United turned up the heat to record an excellent 1-0 win against a tough Darndale team on Saturday, Caoimhe Reilly unlocking their defence late on.

Having beaten their northside rivals in the league, Lucan came into the cup showpiece confident, but were repeatedly stymied by the brilliance of the opposing defence at the Oscar Traynor Centre.

Centre forward, Caoimhe Reilly had a number one-on-ones that were ultimately repelled while Doirreann Macken and Aoife Doherty were denied by the crossbar.

Doherty, who was deployed at centre-back, put in a player-of-the-match display alongside Bethany O’Connell and she once again hit the crossbar on the restart with a free from distance.

It was going to take something very special to find the net and that moment of magic was produced by Reilly a few minutes from time.

Macken played a ball across to Reilly and she took it away from the defender with her left foot before turning back onto her right and guiding it into the net to secure the cup.
