RESIDENTS lodged objections to the planned installation of speed bumps in the county, leading South Dublin County Council to shelve some of their plans for the installations.

The local authority accepted submissions for plans for speed bumps around the county from December 13, 2018, to January 14, and they received 70 eligible submissions on the plans.

There are plans for speed bumps to be installed at The Drive, Millbrook Lawns

Following the consultations, SDCC removed a significant number of proposals in Tallaght, Clondalkin, Lucan, Rathfarnham, Terenure and Templeogue.

Twelve submissions were received in relation to plans for the installation of speed bumps in the Rathfarnham/Templeogue-Terenure area, leading to the council scrapping plans for a number of speed bumps in the area as a result of the objections.

Speed bumps will now not be installed at Glenasmole National School, Ballyroan Heights, The Watercourse, Orwell Park Dale, Muckross Drive and Muckross Avenue.

However, speed bumps will be installed on Knocklyon Road, Woodstock Park, Cypress Drive, Limekiln Road, St Peter’s Crescent, Glenmore Park, Willington Park, Collins Drive, Marian Crescent, Prospect View, Prospect Glen and Ferncourt Green.

In Clondalkin, 29 submissions were received, with the council deciding not to go ahead with the installation of speed bumps at Riversdale Road, Cappaghmore and St Brigid’s Road.

Fianna Fáil Councillor Trevor Gilligan said 31 per cent of people who made submissions to the 2019/2020 traffic calming proposals, listed objections.

“I welcome the public consultation as a lot of residents were up in arms about the proposals, thinking they were a done deal,” said Cllr Gilligan.

Traffic calming measures in areas of Clondalkin, Rathcoole and Newcastle, that got the green light include; Main Street in Newcastle Village, Broadfield Park, Broadfield Meadows, Lindisfarne Park, Ashwood Road, Greenfort Avenue, Grange View Road, Kilmahuddrick Avenue, Shancastle Close, Shancastle Park, and Forest Hills in Rathcoole.

Fifteen submission were received in relation to planned speed bumps in Tallaght, so the installation of speed bumps in Raheen Park, Tree Park Road, Donomore Park and Tamarisk Heights will not go ahead.

The council does have plans for speed bumps to be installed on Birchview Drive, Heatherview Lawn, Glenview Park, Deerpark Road, Donomore Park, Avonmore Road, Bawnlea Avenue, Sundale Heights, and the Drive, Millbrook Lawns.

Lucan residents made 14 submissions in relation to the planned installation of speed bumps in the area, so the council has now shelved plans for speed bumps on Larkfield Avenue, Griffeen Road, Mount Andrew Dale and Mount Andrew Avenue.

Speed bumps will be installed on Griffeen Glen Drive, Moy Glass Road, Moy Glass View, Tullyhall Green, Tullyhall Close, The Old Forge, Hansted Crescent, Hillcrest Heights, Lucan Newlands Road, Glen Vale, Haydens Park Drive and Griffeen Glen Road.

The installation of the traffic ramps is subject to funding over 2019/2020, and the number of installations which will be completed this year is dependent on the tender price received.
