The restaurant had a dozen employees, who have since been let go, as it is unclear when the restaurant will be able to reopen.

When contacted for comment, a member of staff told The Echo: “We are waiting for the police investigation and the insurance company’s investigation.

“We are very sad. About a dozen employees have lost their jobs.

“More than half of the restaurant has been burnt down.

“We don’t know when we can open the door. We hope it will happen soon, because we have thousands of very good customers who have supported Wei Kee over the past ten years.”

They added that they wanted their customers to know “that we will renovate and reopen the door as soon as possible”.
