The 13th edition of the Dublin Economic Monitor, was launched on May 3 at the Round Tower visitor centre in Clondalkin.

It is a joint initiative on behalf of the four Dublin local authorities - the report featuring South Dublin County Council’s fitness initiative Gael Force on the front page.

Crowe Horwath partner Clodagh O’Brien was invited by SDCC to be a keynote speaker at the launch.

Ms O’Brien outlined the story behind the development and implementation of a tourism destination brand in the context of South Dublin County’s strategic marketing plan.

The ‘Dublin’s Outdoors’ brand was created by Crowe Horwath, in conjunction with SDCC and the local Tourism Working Group, to promote the mountains, waterways and parks of the county.

Throughout the brand’s development, the outdoors and natural amenities stood out for the group in terms of what people in the county were proudest of, and what is recommended most for a tourism experience.

The firm say these unique attractions play an important step in commercialising the appeal of the county as a tourism destination.

Speaking at the event Councillor Emer Higgins said the forum is a good way to “track our economic performance”.

“It reports out quarterly on key economic trends and looks at the local impact of global and national economic trends. It also delves into the detail of Dublin’s own economic indicators and is a great way of monitoring how we as a county are doing. That data then helps inform the economic strategies of each of the local authorities.”
