Rovers defender Scales completes move to Celtic

LIAM Scales will join Celtic from SSE Airtricity League champions Shamrock Rovers on a four-year contract.

With the move confirmed, it meant that last night’s Europa Conference League defeat at the hands of Flora Tallinn at Tallaght Stadium was the defender’s last match for the Hoops.

And the 23-year-old could well be in for a baptism of fire with Celtic given that the Bhoys are gearing up for a much-anticipated Old Firm derby with Rangers in Ibrox Stadium this Sunday.

Scales, who joined Rovers back at the start of 2020 and helped them to the Premier Division crown last season, has sparked some excitement with this move particularly for Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou who said “Liam is a young player who has impressed us and is someone who we think has the potential to have a big future at Celtic.

“He is an athletic defender who has the ability to play in a number of positions.

“As I have said before, everyone at the club has been working hard to add depth and quality to our squad and in signing Liam I think again we have made good progress.

“We all look forward to welcoming Liam to Celtic and to start working with him.”
