Rubbish set on fire in Clondalkin and Tallaght last week.

In Tallaght, rubbish dumped in the front garden of a vacant house last Saturday was set on fire against electricity and gas meters.

A crew from Tallaght Fire Station extinguished the fire before it could spread to the house or meters.

Late Sunday night, Tallaght firefighters attended a second blaze at a vacant house in Clondalkin.

According to Dublin Fire Brigade, crews extinguished two wheelie bin fires at the house in Clondalkin, one of which was set against a utility meter.

In both incidents, crews prevented the fire from spreading or causing major damage.

In a comment to The Echo, DFB said that its message is based around the dumping of rubbish.

“Rubbish is an easy target for arsonists to set alight, and if allowed to spread can cause major fires, and disrupt utility supplies to the local community”, DFB said.

“Dumped rubbish should be reported to the local council at the earliest opportunity.

“It can also be reported on Fix my Street.”

Fix my Street is an online system whereby residents can report problems, like illegal dumping, graffiti, broken pavements or out-of-action street lights.

The Echo did contact South Dublin County Council for comment, however a reply was not received in time for print.

Report illegal dumping to the council on 4149000 or at www.fixmystreet.ie
