Sacred Heart soar to summit after strong start
Sacred Heart’s Major 1A Saturday side have enjoyed an excellent start to the season as they currently sit on top of the table with just one defeat in five games.
Their most recent game saw them pick up a huge 4-1 victory against Cherry Orchard in Dublin 10 on October 10th.
After going a goal down in the first 15 minutes of the game, three goals in the space of five minutes just before half time from Ryan Farrell, Thomas Kelly and Lee Fullam saw them go into the halftime break boasting a 3-1 lead with Fullam grabbing a penalty in the 89th minute to make it four.
Their next match sees them up against Kilnamanagh in the FAI Junior Cup this coming Saturday which is set to take place at Joe Maughan Park.
Managed by Greg Noone, Noone came into the team last January when they were languishing toward the bottom of the table, after having a summer to rebuild they have gotten off to a flying start.
“We’re doing really well domestically, after five games we’re sitting top of the league at the moment.
‘Really exciting, it’s been going well to be honest. When I took over last January we weren’t doing as well.
‘We just saw out the season and rebuilt the squad in the summer, we’re looking good so far. It’s early days but we are definitely going in the right direction.”
The club are looking to do well in league and cup competitions this coming season.
“The goals we set for the start of the season was to get promoted and try to challenge for titles.
‘Our league cup is the Glenn Fullam cup, Glenn would have played with Hearts and passed away a few years ago.
‘His younger brother plays on the team so that’s another cup we would like to win, just for sentimental reasons more than anything.”
