SDCC dealing with “hundreds” of calls about water supply

SOUTH Dublin County Council is getting “hundreds” of calls from residents over water supply this afternoon, with crews currently carrying out repairs at two locations.
The Echo has learned that reduced water pressure is being experienced across a number of estates, with council crews currently carrying out repair works on Lower Ballymount Road and in Monalea, Firhouse.
Speaking with The Echo, Tallaght councillor Charlie O’Connor said: “Due to the freezing conditions, disruption to water supply is a possibility in the coming days.
“I was in communication with the council earlier and they confirmed that they are getting hundreds of calls about water.”
He added: “In my own shop in Springfield this morning, a lot of people were buying water in expectation of a possible disruption to water.
“Neighbours should check with each other that people have water, especially older neighbours before the storm worsens.”
Cllr O’Connor confirmed that there are no planned stopages to water supply, with the council responding so far to breaks in service based on issues with water mains.
South Dublin County Council has reminded people to be at home by 4pm at “the latest” today.
