Sean gets his Mojo back

Sean gets his Mojo back

A TALLAGHT boy with autism was this week reunited with his dog, and best pal, Mojo, in a Christmas miracle, which saw the eight-month-old Chihuahua cared for by a homeless couple.

Mojo escaped from his home in Rossfield on November 4 and was, according to sightings, picked up by two boys who boarded the Luas at Tallaght, with a tan-coloured Chihuahua, and disembarked at the Kylemore stop in Ballyfermot.

After this the trail went cold, despite a massive online campaign to find Mojo and get him safely home to ten-year-old Sean Matthews, who had been left devastated by his dog’s disappearance.

However, this week, the family made contact with a homeless couple who had bought a tan Chihuahua off two boys – and had called the little dog, Lucky.

Sean’s mam Tara told The Echo: “We just couldn’t believe it when we saw it was Mojo.

“Sean was crying every day over Mojo and he’s now so much happier and calmer to have his buddy back.

“It was also very emotional collecting the dog from the couple, the lady had grown very attached to Mojo, who had been living in their tent with them for the past month.

“The lady asked to see a picture of Sean and when I showed her, she started crying – she was happy that Mojo was going home to Sean, but heartbroken because she had grown very attached to him.

“As I walked away, she called me back and gave me a bag with dog food and treats that she had bought for Mojo.

“This woman and her partner have no home, they have nothing, yet she had cared for Mojo, kept him warm and fed, and bought him doggy treats. She had the best of thoughts.”

After posting the story of Mojo’s return on Facebook, there was an outpouring of support for the homeless couple – which saw Tara set up a gofundme page in aid of the woman and her partner.

The original fundraising goal set by Tara was €500, however within the space of three days more than €1,500 was donated by members of the public – with the page open until Friday evening, December 9.

Tara said: “We can’t thank people enough for their support. Everybody who helped us, shared our posts and sent us kind messages have all resulted in Mojo’s return – and now you’re helping to make this Christmas a better one for this homeless couple.

“Everybody helped to get Mojo back and now everybody is helping this homeless couple, it really is a Christmas miracle and shows that there are good people out there who are kind and compassionate.”

While Mojo was away, Tara got Sean another little Chihuahua, called Marley, to keep him company.
“Mojo came home to a new brother,” Tara said.

“Marley and Mojo get on great, they come everywhere with us, and we’re all looking forward to a really amazing Christmas… and hopefully we can make the Christmas of this homeless couple too.”

The gofundme page, which is open until December 9, is called Reward for homeless couple, with the money raised going directly to support the couple this Christmas.
