CLARA Peters was among the major winners at the Irish Figure Skating Championships held for the first time at Lee Valley Ice Centre in Leyton.

The Terenure competitor cap-tured the Senior Ladies title for no less than the seventh time.

Presentation of Skating Champions

Peters is Ireland’s most decorated figure skater and was the first to represent this country at the European and World Championships.

This is the first time that the Irish Championships have taken place outside of Ireland and skaters competed in Basic Novice B to Senior divisions.

Among the other category winners were Conor Stakelum (Senior Men), Sam McAllister (Junior Men), Ciara Hoey (Junior Ladies), Alex Bowker Lonnecker (Advanced Novice Men), Elizabeth Goulding (Advanced Novice ladies) and Sophia Tkacheva (Basic Novice B Ladies).

“This has been a superb contest and the venue has been second to none” said Karen O’Sullivan, the President of the Ice Skating Association of Ireland.

“We look very much forward to the opening of the new ice arena in Dublin to further the development of ice skating in Ireland” she added.
