KATIE Sheldon from Tallaght is fast becoming one of the hottest properties in national and international darts.

Over the past two weeks, the 14-year-old player has landed the INDO National Under 18 title in Ennis as well as helping her Dublin team to back-to-back Leinster titles in Offaly.

For the latter she was the second highest ranked on the squad which was captained by Wayne Dunne and also included Cian McCormack, Cian Fitzpatrick, Jamie and Richie Jordan, and Adam Ronan.

The Dublin B team that won the Shield title at these provincials was skippered by another Tallaght competitor Mark Kiernan.

Sheldon, who is currently ranked 14th in WDF World Girls Under 18 darts, will, together with compatriot Cian Barry, take her place in this week’s Dutch Open, starting Thursday and running through until Sunday, in Assen.

There she will be hoping to maintain her tremendous form in international darts having, last year, represented Ireland at the World Cup Finals in Japan, winning six matches on her way to the final where she eventually lost to her Iranian opponent.

In the Europe Cup in Sweden, she made it as far as the last eight only to be undone by the eventual champion.

Also on her programme this year will be the World Masters Championships in Bridlington, England in September.

She attended this very event last year and again made it to the Under 18 title match where she was pipped by England’s Beau Greeves.
