Singer Declan O’Rourke is grand marshall for festival

THE Cherry Orchard Arts Festival is taking place for the first time in three years and honouring Ballyfermot singer, songwriter, and author Declan O’Rourke, reports Lauren Castleman.

The Ballyfermot Cherry Orchard Arts Festival, previously named the Ballyfermot Festival, has been held online for the past two years to comply with Covid-19 restrictions.

This year, Dublin City Council is launching the festival in person. Ballyfermot local Declan O’Rourke is being honoured with the title of Grand Marshall of the Festival 2022.

This honorary role is in recognition of his extensive contribution to music and representation of Ballyfermot over the years.

Among those who attended the launch on Tuesday evening was musician and song writer Paddy Casey.

The festival will hold over 40 activities and events between June 24 and July 10, ranging from family fun days, music performances, circus activities, open mic night, film screenings, and more.

According to the programme, over 99 per cent of the activities are free, with only a few requiring pre-bookings and an entry fee.

More information on the festival’s activities as well as updates on the festival can be found on the festival’s Facebook page HERE
