Inse Chór and Loreto Dalkey share 2022 Corn

BOTH Gaelscoil Inse Chór and Loreto GNS Dalkey played out an edge-of-the[1]seat 2-1 to 2-1 draw at Croke Park that resulted in both schools sharing this season’s Corn Uí Mhaoláin.

Loreto, who were playing in Croke Park for the first time, were quicker to settle into the match and chalked up a goal early on with a ground strike.

Yet with midfielders Mia Ní Cholmáin and Eve de Paor driving them on, Inse Chór began to ask more questions of the opposing defence, although Loreto appeared more than up to the task.

Indeed, it was not until two minutes from halftime that Inchicore finally opened their account by way of a sublime point by centre-half back, Ellen de Grae Ní Ghadhra.

Within a minute they had edged in front for the first time after corner-forward, Keela Davido Ní Dhonnabháin found the net from a seemingly impossible angle almost right on the end line.

Gaelscoil Inse Chór played their part in an exciting battle with Loreto Dalkey that resulted in the two teams sharing the Corn Uí Mhaoláin

It served to earn Gaelscoil the narrowest of leads heading in at the break, but it was not long into the second half that Loreto again jumped back in the driving seat when Lucy McCarthy pounced on a loose ball after Gaelscoil goalkeeper, Séadhna Ní Mháirtín had come off her line to make a great save.

Twice Loreto cleared the sliotar off their goal line at the other end in the following minutes, but they could do little to stop Davido Ní Dhonnabháin serving up a second goal to see Inchicore again overtake into a one-point advantage.

The Dalkey side then laid siege to the Gaelscoil goal and, just when it seemed Inchicore might hold out for the win, Loreto’s Béibhinn O’Donnell popped the ball over the bar in injury time.

The two schools were declared joint winners and Corn Uí Mhaoláin was presented to both captains, much to the delight of both sets of players and mentors.
