Social housing projects delayed for five months

THE expected completion date for two social housing developments for older people in Springfield, Tallaght, have been pushed back to the end of March 2022.

The 17 residential units and community centre at Maplewood Heights, and 23 housing units at Fernwood Green, were initially expected to be complete by November 2021.

However, according to a leaflet circulated by the approved housing body which is managing the developments, Clúid Housing, on Tuesday, labour and material shortages have delayed the projects.

In the leaflet, Clúid cites the closure of construction sites earlier this year, and “ongoing shortages of both labour and materials” as the factors which have caused the delays.

In terms of the current status of the project, the underfloor services and floor slabs have been installed for all houses, and the majority of the underground utility services installation is complete.

“We will continue to work with the contractor, South Dublin County Council and the local residents to ensure the remaining construction works are completed as quickly as possible with least disruption to the local community and will continue to monitor the local road conditions to ensure they are maintained in good order,” according to Clúid.

They added that they “look forward to delivering new age-friendly housing in the Spring.”
