Some of Tallaght and Clondalkin’s brightest young stars are set to play an integral part in this year’s St Patrick’s Festival when they perform at Young Blood – a collaboration of young musicians, actors and poets from across Ireland.

Taking place at the National Concert Hall on Saturday, March 18, the show is described as a “meander through the genres of hip hop and spoken word in what promises to be a powerful collective performance of Ireland’s smartest, expressive young musicians, rappers and poets”.

Among those performing will be Hare Squead, Emmet Kirwan, Stephen Jones Smith, Colm Keegan and Natalya O’Flaherty.

The Hare Squead trio made up of H and Tony, both from Tallaght, and Jessy Rose from Blanchardstown, were recently named as one of NME’s Top 10 best new bands to watch in 2017.

Meanwhile, Emmet Kirwan from Springfield needs little introduction at this point (but that won’t stop us bigging him up) after his recent successes with RIOT, Dublin Old School and Heartbreak.

Also on the bill is Stephen Jones Smith who penned an inspiring spoken work poem for the 2017 St Patrick’s Festival, and the likes of Smith and Kirwan are certainly leading the way when it comes to the spoken work genre in Ireland.

Clondalkin’s Natalya O’Flaherty (16) will be giving a spoken word performance in the show – with the Collinstown Park Community College student performing her poem ‘Murky Waters’, which O’Flaherty explained, “is about the change in tolerance compared to when our parents were younger, especially in terms of the LGBTQ community and stuff like the Repeal the 8th movement.”

Finally, fellow Clondalkin native and musician Colm Keegan will also take to the National Concert Hall stage, and Celtic Thunder star is sure to wow the crowd.

Others on the show include Abby Oliveira, Colm Keegan, John Cummins and many more.
