Sorcha’s Passion For Singing: Fair City star brings ‘Forever Hits Show’ to The Civic

While she may be best known for her role as Orla in RTÉ’s ‘Fair City’, Sorcha Furlong is also a talented singer who’s just as effective at commanding an audience in person as she is on screen.

Sorcha will be bringing her Forever Hits show to the Civic Theatre on January 13, where, alongside her band, she’ll perform a collection of uplifting hits from the 70s, 80s and 90s.

“The audience can expect two hours of back-to-back hits from 70s disco, to the 80s and the 90s,” Sorcha told The Echo.

“I’m an 80s child so I love that era…and also they are ‘forever hits’ so they are timeless.

“From Pat Benetar to Gloria Estefan to Genesis to ABBA – it will be a jam-packed show.”

The Forever Hits show feeds into Sorcha’s passion for singing live and, after assembling the band last year, she has been happily gigging ever since.

“I set up the Forever Hits band at the end of last year as I really missed gigging,” Sorcha explained.

“I always thought I’d get back to it someday, and then Covid happened, and everything shut down, and obviously not knowing at the time if theatre or live entertainment was ever coming back.

“So when things were getting back to normal, I met Vincent Lawlor of Arena Lynx Productions to talk about the concept of the show, getting the right band together and the tracks that we’d love to perform – and here we are now!”

While Sorcha continues to appear as Orla Molloy in ‘Fair City’, she said that her acting role differs from her role as a singer – but she enjoys both equally.

“Obviously, ‘Fair City’ isn’t live and is shot over 12 hours a day, four days a week,” she said.

“Also, if you make a mistake, you can start again, whereas theatre is live and ‘in the moment’ and you can feel the audience’s reaction. They are both so different, but I love that.”

Sorcha Furlong’s Forever Hits Show is on in the Civic Theatre on January 13 ay 9pm, with tickets costing €27 or €25 concession.
