County council shortlisted for seven planning awards

THE Irish Planning Institute (IPI), the all-island professional membership body for spatial planners, has shortlisted 39 entries for this year’s Irish Planning Awards, which is returning for the first time since 2020.

South Dublin County Council has been shortlisted in seven out of the eight categories for this year’s awards.

They have been nominated for the City Edge Strategic Framework, with Dublin City Council, and the South Dublin County Development Plan 2022-2028 in the Plan Making category; the From Big Box to Green Scene project in the Employment & Enterprise category; The Street – Kick-Starting the Tallaght Innovation Quarter project in the Urban Regeneration & Heritage category and the South Dublin’s Green Space Factor project in the Climate Action & Biodiversity category.

The council is also nominated for the Adamstown SDZ – Airlie Park, Tandy’s Lane Park and Adamstown District Centre Plaza and Kilcarbery-Grange in South Dublin projects in the Sustainable Communities & Placemaking category; and the ‘Instantaneous Data’ – A South Dublin Approach to Active Land Management and City Edge Project, alongside Dublin City Council projects in the Research and Innovation.

Quintain Limited has been shortlisted in the President’s Award category for their Crossings project in Adamstown alongside and Virtus Project Management which has also been shortlisted for the Award.

Brock McClure Planning & Development Consultants, Cairn Homes Planning Team, Fingal County Council, South Dublin County Council, and Tom Phillips + Associates have all been nominated in the Workplace of the Year category.

The awards aim to highlight innovation and excellence in Irish planning.

The awards gala ceremony will take place on September 28, 2023 in Clontarf Castle Hotel.

Mary MacMahon, President of the Irish Planning Institute said: “The standard and quality of entries for this year’s awards were very high, the judging panel had a very tough task to produce a shortlist.

“After reviewing all the entries, we have been able to shortlist 39 impressive submissions. We look forward to the awards ceremony in September and the announcement of the winning entries per category.

“The awards provide an excellent opportunity to reflect and promote the contribution of planning to society and highlight the positive work being carried out across the sector and the role of planning in delivering quality and sustainable development.”

The Department of Housing, Local Government, and Heritage will be the main sponsor of this year’s awards with additional sponsors including Wave Dynamics Acoustic Consultants and Uisce Éireann.

The individual categories of Climate Action and Biodiversity and Research and Innovation will be sponsored by FuturEnergy Ireland and the Office of the Planning Regulator respectively.
