St Pat’s go head to head with Bohs in Dublin derby

ST PATRICK’S Athletic have the first of two remaining Dublin derbies in the SSE Airtricity League Premier Division ahead of them when they take on Bohemians on Friday night.

The Saints will travel to Dalymount Park, which recently had plans for redevelopment lodged, for what is expected to be a feisty encounter with kick-off scheduled for 7.45pm.

Despite a nil-all spin in August, St Pat’s and Bohs have served up some hugely entertaining encounters so far this season with them taking a win each.

In their first meeting, in March at Richmond Park, Jobstown man Jonathan Afolabi found the net for Bohs and Dean Williams doubled their lead while Jamie Lennon was sent-off for the hosts.

A month later, there was five goals and two red cards issued at Dalymount Park.

Adam McDonnell’s goal early on for Bohemians lit a fire under the Saints, who then scored three times in 10- minutes through Chris Forrester, Jay McClelland and Mark Doyle.

Jordan Flores was red carded at the midway point and Dean Williams pulled one back for the hosts while Thomas Lonergan was also sent to the stands deep into injury time.

Now, with European qualifier places up for grabs and time running out in the season, the stakes could not be higher heading into the final league meeting between the two teams.

There is only a single point separating the two teams, with Jon Daly’s side sat in third and Declan Divine’s Bohemians one spot behind them.

Both teams do have an outside chance of winning the league still but only if Shamrock Rovers go on a winless streak in their remaining four matches.

St Pat’s could have an opportunity to put the kibosh on the Hoops title prospects in the last Dublin derby of the league on October 27.

However, the Saints most realistic avenue to silverware will come in the FAI Cup Final, which will pit them up against Bohemians once again on November 12.
