IRELAND international Stephanie Roche is set to re-join Peamount United ahead of the start to the new Women’s National League season next month.

The experienced forward last played for the Newcastle side back in 2014 and it was with that very club that she enjoyed National League and Cup success and played in the Women’s Champions League.

Her sublime goal for Peamount against Wexford Youths back in 2013 was later shortlisted for the 2014 FIFA Puskas Award, alongside 2014 World Cup strikes by James Rodriguez and Robin van Persie.

Since leaving Peamount, Roche has played her club football overseas with the likes of ASPTT Albi in France, Houston Dash in the US, FA Women’s Super League outfit Sunderland Ladies and most recently Italian Serie A side Florentia.

Roche is one of a number of signings that Peamount manager James O’Callaghan has secured for the coming season and he is pleased to have someone of her calibre on board.

“Stephanie has had a big journey around the footballing world since she left Peamount. She’s back in the National League now and hopefully she’ll do well” he told The Echo.

Roche is one of a number of attacking additions that O’Callaghan has made to his team which will kick off the defence of their National League crown away to Cork City on Sunday, March 15.

Indeed he has also secured the services of former Shelbourne striker Alannah McEvoy along with ex-Galway player Sadhbh Doyle.

Defender/midfielder Tiegan Ruddy is also returning to Peamount after spells with Shelbourne and US outfit Central Connecticut Blue Devils while former Wexford player Sarah McKevitt will link up with the defending champions.

“These are all very good signings that should hopefully add to the firepower in the team” said O’Callaghan.
