A DETERMINED runner from Tallaght is set to take on a new challenge in aid of the Make A Wish Foundation.

Stephen Martin, from Jobstown, is taking part in the Marathon Man to Ironman challenge which will see him taking part in the Dublin Marathon next week and then going on to Mallorca to take part in an Ironman challenge in May.

He began his journey with running three years ago when he took part in the Wicklow 200 with friends, and has gone on to take part in 5K, 10K, Duathlon and Triathlon races in aid of the children’s charity, Make A Wish.

Make A Wish grants wishes to children aged between three and 17 living with life-threatening medical conditions.

Speaking to The Echo about the upcoming marathon, Stephen said: “I’ve been training six days a week in the lead-up to the marathon.

“I’ve been running over the last few years, but this is my first time doing the Dublin marathon.

“I chose Make A Wish as the charity because I liked the work they were doing and it would be nice to raise enough to grant one wish for a child. I’ve raised about €550 so far through the fundraising page and and a raffle that was organised by my wife – €1,000 is the goal right now.

“After the Marathon Man to Ironman challenge, if it goes well, I’ll probably go on to do a triathlon in Norway and then another Ironman challenge.”

Stephen has also been detailing his journey to Mallorca since September 2014 with his blog Irish Ironman 2016 and is currently updating it with details on his training before he takes part in the Dublin Marathon.

His blog can be viewed online at www.irishironman2016.wordpress.com and donations in aid of Make A Wish foundation can be made through Stephen’s fundraising page at www.mycharity.ie/event/marathonmantoirinman
