Takeda plan to construct two storey facility at Grange Castle

JAPANESE pharmaceutical company Takeda has filed a planning application with South Dublin County Council seeking to construct a two-storey extension to its facility.

Based in Grange Castle Business Park in Clondalkin, Takeda Ireland Limited, a subsidiary of Takeda Pharmaceutical Company Ltd, is seeking to further develop its site.

Plans are for a two-storey extension and any associated site works to the south elevation of the existing engineering stores in the administration offices building.

This comprises of a construction area of around 34m.sq with a maximum height of 9.4m to accommodate two-storey units at the subject site.

The application itself relates to development which comprises of an acitivity, which requires an Industrial Emissions Licence in accordance with the EPA Act 1922.

On January 26, 2022, the planing application was received by the local planning authority.

Third party submissions are being accepted up to March 1, before the council makes a decision on the plans by March 22.

In February 2021, it was announced by Takeda Ireland that that it would invest €36.4million in the Grange Castle site to support the expansion of the company’s cell therapy production facility.

It said that the investment would create around 100 new jobs over the following three years and they would play an important role in supplying world markets with cell therapy treatment for patients.

At that time, Takeda Global Manufacturing and Supply Officer, Thomas Wozniewski, welcomed the development.

“The investment to expand this state-of-the-art cell therapy production facility highlights the importance of cell therapy for Takeda,” Mr Wozniewski said.

“The expansion of the cell therapy manufacturing line in Grange Castle will help us to serve more patients worldwide, and it underlines our commitment to Ireland as a key country.

“With its advanced use of digital technologies, the cell therapy manufacturing lines in Grange Castle are a testimony to our innovation capabilities.”

Before that, in July 2019, the Japanese pharmaceutical group announced a €30million investment for a state-of-the-art facility for commercial scale cell therapy production.

This commercial scale cell therapy production facility is the first of its kind in Ireland.

The bulk pharmaceutical plant for the manufacture and development of Pharma products was granted permission by the council in in 2003.

Over the years, Takeda has continued to adapt and expand its operations at Grange Castle Business Park.
