Tallafest’s Big Dig will unearth Viking heritage

TALLAGHT village is set for a Viking invasion this June 22 when the School of Irish Archaeology teams up with Tallafest to bring the Big Dig to Dublin 24.
The Big Dig will be among a number of activities staged for Tallafest 2019, and will provide children and adults with an opportunity to discover how to excavate the remains of a Viking house.

As participants dig through the site, they will unearth Viking treasures and artefacts dating back 1,000 years, while learning about the lives of our Viking ancestors as history is brought to life by qualified archaeologists.
According to Tara De Buitléar, volunteer director of Tallafest: “The Big Dig is a real hands-on way for kids and adults to experience what it is like to uncover our history. We are delighted we have been able to secure this very unique activity for Tallafest 2019.
“Our programme is constantly evolving to bring the latest creative activities to Tallaght.”
During Tallafest, there will be sessions each hour, with the School of Irish Archaelogy describing the event as a “wonderful way for the whole family to get active, learn and have a lot of fun all at the same time”.
Mark Kelly, Managing Director of The School of Irish Archaeology in Dublin, said: “We are really excited to be coming to Tallafest 2019 in Tallaght this summer, a place with its own rich heritage.”
As the countdown to Tallafest continues, businesses interested in coming on board as a festival sponsor are encouraged to make contact by this Friday, May 31.
Registrations for stalls and the craft market closes on June 6.
