Tallaght and Lucan teens charged with violent disorder

THREE teenagers kicked and punched a man (21) who was leaving a Chinese takeaway, Tallaght Court has heard.

Two of them also robbed his bicycle. Judge Patricia McNamara accepted jurisdiction in the case.

The teenagers, both 17 years old, with addresses in Lucan and Tallaght respectively, and a 16-year-old with an address in Tallaght, are charged with violent disorder at a location in Tallaght on November 4, 2015.

The two 17-year-olds are also charged with robbing the 21-year-old of his bicycle also at the location in Tallaght on November 4, 2015.

There was no appearance from the 16-year-old in court. His solicitor, Michael Hennessy, said his client was at a funeral.
The teenager’s mother was in court.

Garda John Tuthill told Judge McNamara that the DPP had directed summary disposal.

Judge McNamara asked what was alleged.

Garda Tuthill said it will be alleged that at 11.30pm on November 4 last, the injured party went to a Chinese takeaway on his pushbike.

He said a large group of teenagers had congregated outside.

He said it will be alleged that the injured party went into the takeaway with his bicycle.

Garda Tuthill said it will be alleged that as the injured party was leaving the takeaway he was jostled by the teenagers and was punched numerous times to his face and received a number of kicks to his head.

Judge McNamara asked why the teenagers are not charged with assault.

Garda Tuthill said that assault charges were recommended but violent disorder was the charge proferred by the DPP.

Mr Hennessy asked the judge to accept jurisdiction. The first 17-year-old’s counsel, George Burns Bl, said his client had a lesser role in the alleged assault.

Judge McNamara accepted jurisdiction in respect of each defendant.

She remanded each teenager on bail for a month for mention.
