Tallaght Athletes in top form in Championships

TALLAGHT athletes were in top form at the National Juvenile Indoor Championships in Athlone and the Leinster 10-mile Road Race Championships in Raheny in the past week.

Indeed, the juvenile athletes reached the finals on 11 occasions over the course of the weekend, with Dubem Amah topping the podium in the U17 200m in a new personal best time of 22.40, to add to the bronze he won in the 60m with a P.B. of 7.07.

Uche Disu took home two bronze medals when she finished 3rd in both U19 60m and 200m finals with times of 7.81 and 25.47 respectively, while Abdullahi Adeleke won silver in the U16 60m with a time of 7.34, and he finished 5th in the 200m final in 23.99, while Kamal Oresyna finished 5th in the 60m final in 7.43, and he recorded a time of 24.24 in the 200m heats.

Brianna Dwyer Carty made the finals of the U17 60m and 200m where she finished 6th and 4th with respective times of 7.97 and 25.97.

Gloria Oigbochie recorded a time of 7.87 when 4th in the U18 60m final, and she recorded a personal best time of 25.69 in the 200m final where she crossed the line in 5th, while Joanna Shodipo recorded a time of 8.25 in the heats of the 60m, and 27.92 in the heats of the 200m, and Ellie Carruth recorded a time of 28.58 in her 200m heat.

Leonard Deering bettered his previous best time for the 800m by almost 5 seconds when he finished 4th in the U15 final in 2:09.53, while Marcus Mitchell recorded a time of 2.17.10 in his U17 800m heat and Conor McGann recorded a jump of 4.25m in the U16 long jump.

At the Leinster 10-mile Road Race Championships in Raheny on Easter Monday, Tara Darcy won the O/35 category with a time 1:06.49 and she led the Dublin team home to team victory, while Derek Quinn won bronze in the O/65 category with a time of 1:12.50, while Alan Mc Cabe and Joe Pepper both recorded new personal best times of 1:13.27 and 1:14.28 respectively for the distance.

Elsewhere, Sean O’Donnel recorded a time of 11.10 and 23.10 at the PANVAC Sprints & Hurdles Open Meet in in Peterborough.
