Tallaght hosts Mixed World Cup

TALLAGHT Town FC ran off as successful World Cup tournament in Kiltipper last weekend.

Involving 16 teams, including local outfits Knocklyon, Rathcoole Boys and Sacred Heart as well as the hosts, this event was a mixed Mini World Cup whereby teams included seven ‘Football for All’ players and four mainstream players.

The rules allowed for the mainstream players to assist the Football for All participants without themselves scoring.

“It was an all-day event and the kids had a blast” said Alan Merriman of Tallaght Town.

“In the end it came down to Brazil v Italy in the cup final with Brazil coming out on top while in the shield final it was Belgium v Italy with Italy winning.

“A special mention to Mick Kennedy for helping me organize this event and to Robbie de Courcey (FAI) who gives us amazing support with our Football for All teams.

“Tallaght Town FC were absolutely delighted to host this tournament and we plan for the next tournament this summer out in Abbotstown” he added.
