A TEENAGER (17) who was part of a three-man gang that assaulted two men at a Luas stop on St Patrick’s Day 2015 was remanded for a probation report by Tallaght Court, reports Brendan Grehan.

The teenager was 16 at the time of the offence.

One of the victims suffered a fractured skull while the other had a plate inserted in his cheek.

The teenager (17), with a Tallaght address, had pleaded guilty to assaulting two named males causing them harm at a location in Tallaght on March 17, 2015.

The court had heard that the incident happened on St Patrick’s Day 2015. The injured parties had been attending an event in Tallaght Stadium and had walked over to get the Luas. They had got on the Luas at the terminal and the tram moved 20 metres or so to the first stop.

When the injured parties were on the Luas words were exchanged between them and a group of males who were on the platform.

A punch was thrown on the Luas, but it was unclear as to who had thrown it, the court had heard.

The injured parties then left the Luas and went onto the platform where they were kicked on the ground by three men, including the teenager. Garda Glennon said there had been five males involved but only three were charged.

The three males left the scene but two returned, not the teenager, and kicked the men again.

The teenager was before Judge Patricia McNamara for a restorative justice report.

Judge McNamara said it was a good report. She told the teenager that he had the potential to turn his life around. The teenager’s solicitor, Michael Hennessy, said his client is quite ambitious.

Judge McNamara said she would remand the case to end of the month for an updated probation report.
